Successful BCA Leaders Summit drives building consenting improvements

Two-way dialogue with councils makes immediate headway

The recent BCA Leaders Summit organised by the Simpli Centre of Excellence in Wellington proved to be a resounding success. The event brought together councils, industry leaders, and government officials.

The core idea was simple: co-design between councils, government leaders and the private sector is the way forward if we want to radically improve building consenting across Aotearoa.

Our notable speakers included the Hon Dr Deborah Russell, Minister for the Earthquake Commission; Tim Grafton, CEO of the Insurance Council; and Richard Templer, CEO of EngineeringNZ.

The active presence of the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) underscored their commitment to a two-way dialogue with councils. The summit provided an inclusive platform for councils, regardless of size, to contribute to discussions and shape the future of the industry.

And throughout the Simpli Centre of Excellence’s role was clear – to represent and amplify the voices of councils throughout New Zealand – and help shape the discussion to provide positive outcomes for all.

Collective responsibility was a key theme, with each sector adding their experience and know-how to contribute to the whole.

Moving forwards, we believe such platforms will play a vital role in shaping policies and practices to ensure a thriving and efficient building consent system for all.
