MBIE is reviewing efficiency, durability and safety across the board
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has initiated a comprehensive review of the building consent system, with the objective of modernising it and ensuring that building work is done right the first time.
The review aims to provide assurance to building owners and users that buildings are well-made, healthy, durable, and safe.
The second stage of the review involves the release of an options paper. This presents various options and pathways for reforming the building consent system.
The options paper seeks feedback on eight areas: promoting competition; removing impediments to product substitution; strengthening roles and responsibilities; new assurance pathways; better delivery of building consent services; improved performance monitoring and system stewardship; better responsiveness to Māori needs; and addressing the interface between building and resource consent processes.
You’re invited to provide feedback on the identified options for consideration to reform the building consent system. Feedback can be provided through an online survey, email, or post, with the submission period closing at 5 pm on August 7, 2023. Click here to find out more.
